TRENTON, N. J. (AP) - Men who take Viagra to keep their erection firm for longer than four hours will be able to enjoy a new sex experience as they age, a new research finds.
The men who took the drug in the study also experienced better erections and better overall sexual satisfaction.
The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that erectile dysfunction affects millions of men each year. Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs have been linked to more than $2 billion in erectile dysfunction, a link far beyond the United States.
"Erectile dysfunction is the most common sexual problem in men, and men who have it aren't necessarily healthy," said study co-author Daniel Goodman, MD, the study's lead author. "The good news is that the good news is that there's a new link between Viagra and erectile dysfunction."
The new research, reported in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, was published on Wednesday in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs have been linked to more than $2 billion in erectile dysfunction.
The Viagra study was designed to test the hypothesis that men who take Viagra to keep their erection firm for longer than four hours will be able to enjoy a new sex experience as they age.
"It's very exciting," said study co-author David Karp, MD, professor of urology at Johns Hopkins Medical center and co-lead investigator of the study.

Viagra is the most commonly prescribed ED medication for men in the United States, and more than 10 million prescriptions are written for it each year. Viagra is available in pill form for about $10 for a 30-milligram dose, according to a press release from the company.
The drug is also sometimes called Viagra.
A Pfizer spokeswoman said: "Pfizer is not advising consumers to avoid taking any other ED medication, including Viagra, without first consulting with a healthcare provider."
Karp added that the company has not received any reports of adverse events linked to the study.
"We are aware of some cases of adverse events, but there are no known reports of adverse events in the clinical setting," Karp said.
The drug was approved in 1998 by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
